Dear Parents,
I am writing to you about our plans for the reopening of Kender Primary School on Monday, 8 March 2021.
This information is intended to provide clarity and transparency to pupils and parents or carers about what to expect from remote education where national or local restrictions require entire cohorts (or bubbles) to remain at home.
For details of what to expect where individual pupils are self-isolating, please see the final section of this page.
Dear parents, carers and guardians,
Would you like to learn about ideas or activities to promote positive mental health and wellbeing for your child? Or, perhaps your child is worrying more than usual or feeling low and you would like some advice on steps you can take to support them?
If so, please click on the attached newsletter to find out more about the activities that we are running over lockdown, including bitesize virtual sessions, virtual coffee mornings and our parent support line.
We are Lewisham Mental Health Support Teams (MHST). We work in 19 schools across Lewisham, including your child’s school. We work in partnership with MHST schools to put in place a whole school approach to support all children and young people in the school community, including those who are currently coping with their emotional wellbeing and mental health.
Dear Parents,
We come to the end of another good learning week online and for those attending school. Our thanks to all of the children who are working so hard despite not being in school, and a big thank you to the Teachers who continue to work on improving the offer we are providing for our children. It looks like a really cold weekend so please wrap up warm on your walks and keep yourselves safe.
Parents Meeting:
Our thanks to all the parents who were able to attend the meetings this week. The feedback has been really positive. Parents commented on how useful they found the meetings as they were able to share experiences with other parents and as their children were present, they heard first hand from their Teachers that they must complete their online learning. We know home learning can be difficult and appreciate the way parents are supporting their children. For those parents who were unable to attend the meetings, please contact your child’s class Teacher if you need help with accessing the remote learning.
A gentle reminder. Please, please, please do not visit people outside of your family or support bubble. This is especially important for those children coming into school. Should we become aware that a child has travelled or made a visit outside of the family or support bubble, we will ask that the child to be kept at home for 10 days to limit the risk of possible infection. Thank you for your continued support.
iPad Reminders:
Please remind your child that the school iPads are for learning ONLY and should not be used for playing games unless, they are the ones installed on the iPad and related to learning. Parents please also ensure that iPads are not used in bedrooms, and removed from your child at night and left to charge. We have become aware of children using their iPads after 10pm and accessing games on- line. Thank you for your continued support.

Dear Mums, Dads and Carers
This is not the letter I would have hoped to write at the beginning of a new year and I very much regret the upset that has been caused by the confusion surrounding the opening of primary schools in London. Nonetheless, happy New Year to all our children and their families and we wish you all a happy and healthy year to come. I would like to thank all our parents and carers for the support you have shown during this very challenging period and for your patience and good humour.
You will I hope have had a chance to collect your child’s iPad to support their remote learning. This comes with all the apps your child will need to access the remote learning (primarily Showbie) and this should remove any issues you may have had with logins.
If you have not had a chance to collect the iPad today, please contact the school office to arrange an appointment to do so.
We are aiming to follow the school day as closely as we can. We are expecting that all children will be logging in to Showbie for their lessons from 09.00am each day so that they are in a routine. There will be clear expectations for the day’s learning and your child is expected to be able to complete this the same day. Children in Y3-Y6 will be set work that they should be able to complete without adult support. If you have any comments or queries on the learning, please email your child’s teacher directly and they will be happy to help you.
We will have contacted all the children we believe are entitled to be in school either as their parents are key workers or they are vulnerable by the end of the day. Gates will open at 08.45 and will close at 09.05 as previously and children should use the following gates:
Y1 – Kender Street
Y2/3 – Briant Street
Y4/5 – Faulkner Street
Y6 – main entrance
Nursery and reception children will now both be based in our nursery and should use that entrance to drop and collect. Children should wear school uniform.
Lunch will be provided as usual and should be paid for via Arbor. Please consult the school website and Twitter for updates.
Best wishes
Keith Barr
Headteacher

Dear mums, dads and carers
I am writing to tell you what you need to do about reporting cases of COVID-19 and contact tracing over the February half term.
As you know schools have played an important role in contact tracing. We have been identifying anyone who has been in close contact at school with someone who has tested positive for COVID19, up to 2 days before that person had symptoms. Those contacts then need to self-isolate for 10 days because they are at risk of having caught COVID-19 and being contagious themselves.
Contact tracing will be slightly different during the February half term when schools are closed and there is less chance of being a contact of someone in school.
Please follow the guidance below if your child begins to show symptoms or tests positive for COVID-19 during the February half term.
If your child develops symptoms of COVID-19 within 48 hours of their last day in school |
· Get a test for your child |
If your child has no symptoms of COVID-19 but tests positive within 48 hours of being in school |
· Let the school know straight away- we will identify any other people in the school community who are close contacts |
If your child develops symptoms of COVID-19 more than 48 hours after their last day in school - ie, after 20 December 20 |
· Get a test for your child |
|
During the holidays, please contact the school by emailing me at keith.barr@kender.lewisham.sch.uk
You must provide the following:
• Child’s name
• Class/year group
• Date last in school
• Date symptoms started/ child began to feel unwell
• Date of test
• Date positive result received
If you are contacted by the school because your child is identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, they must self-isolate for 10 days.
We ask that you stick to all COVID-19 social distancing social mixing guidance until the end of term to reduce the risk of transmission of the virus and keep us all safe and well over the holiday period. It is also important to follow guidance over the holidays

We thought we would let you know how the Friends of Kender (PTA) are getting on with the items our children kindly brought in for Children in Need.
The Christmas Hampers are coming along nicely!
Next Friday is Children in Need. We are launching a collection for our annual Christmas Hampers. Next Friday we are asking children to dress up in yellow or spots.
In return for dressing up we ask each child to bring an item for one of our hampers. This could be:
a tin or packet of food ie pasta, a tin of soup, a sauce in a jar
chocolates or sweets
drinks ie soft drinks, juices, alcoholic drinks
bathroom items ie shower gel, hand wash, body lotion
a small toy or gift item
In general please send your child in with an item that you think you would like to receive a start of a hamper. All items should be unopened and be in good condition.
