We look forward to welcoming our children and families back on Monday. It has been a difficult time however we are proud of the way in which the Kender community has risen to the challenge. Staff have been preparing the school and we are more than ready for the children’s return. As we near the end of this period of lockdown and get closer to the reopening the school, we are aware that many children, parents, carers, and guardians may be experiencing concerns and anxieties that require additional support or guidance in managing or addressing these. Please rest assured that we will be ensuring the children and families are safe and happy with returning to school and are putting a recovery curriculum in place to ensure this happens. If parents have any concerns, please talk to staff and we will do everything possible to support you.
Below are some links to support groups and charities offering support and guidance to young people and their families during these challenging times:
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our parents for supporting their children’s learning at home. We know this was not an easy task and we have been amazed with the level of work uploaded and the way in which the children engaged with their learning. We recognise your hard work and appreciate your support.
Here are the essential details you will need for your child re-starting school.
When your child returns to school, they should bring the following to school:
Their iPad, charger, and cable: it is essential that these are brought back on Monday morning please
Their own labelled water bottle
Fruit for a mid-morning snack – Years 2 to 6
Their PE kit – bring on Monday and take home on Friday – Years 1 - 6
Their own face covering should they wish to wear one
In the morning, no parents will be allowed on site for this term, children will be dropped off at the school gates.
At the end of the day, all parents who come to collect will leave through the Briant street gate. Parents for children in reception and year, one will come onsite via the Kender Street gate. For children in years 3 to 6, parents must use the Faulkner Street Gate. When you come onsite all parents must wear a mask, please. If you have a medical reason why you should not do so, please email us in advance.
There will be a strict one-way system in place.
Should your child display any of the following symptoms of Covid-19:
A high temperature – this means they feel hot to touch on their chest or back
A new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if they usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
A loss of, or change in, their normal sense of smell or taste – this means they cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
They should be kept at home and a test ordered straight away. If your child is in school and shows symptoms they will be sent home immediately, and you will be told to request a test. It is of course very important that we have up to date contact details so, if you have recently changed your mobile number or your email address, please let the school office know immediately.
Please refer to the school website where further and more detailed information is available. https://www.kender.lewisham.sch.uk/news/?pid=3&nid=1&storyid=1304
We will be celebrating Comic Relief on Friday 19 March. Children can come to school dressed as their favourite super hero or wear red.
We look forward to seeing you all on Monday.
Wishing you all a relaxed and safe weekend.
