It has been another good week despite the cold and wet weather and the children have been working really hard. Our thanks to all the year groups children and staff.
Parent’s evenings will be held on Tuesday 24th and Thursday 26th November from 4pm. This will be a time for parents to discuss how their child have settled back into school and the next steps for their learning. As this will be a virtual appointment via Zoom, we ask you to take note of our key protocols.
Please access Zoom at least 5 minutes before your appointment time as this will ensure that you are ready for your appointment
Your camera must be on for the duration of your meeting with the class teacher. This is to confirm your identity for the meeting
Your display name must be your child’s name, again to aid identification
Please note that you will be held in the “Waiting Room” until your meeting time. If you are late for your appointment, we will not be able to admit you as another meeting maybe in progress. Parents will only be admitted in-line with our school Zoom protocol as above. We thank you for your cooperation and support in helping teachers to make this work as effectively and securely as possible. Please watch out for the details for your meeting.
School Development Plan
Following the staff twilight session on Wednesday, 11 November children from Year 2 to 6 have met with Mrs Ellison to talk about their experiences with writing. This has been a good opportunity to hear from our children and will help with reviewing the priorities for writing across the school within the school development plan (SDP). The outcomes from the staff twilight session and the year group meetings were shared with governors on Wednesday, 18 November at the full governors meeting. The aim is to have the review in place for January 2021. One aspect for review is the school vision, which can be viewed on our website https://www.kender.lewisham.sch.uk/page/?title=Strategy&pid=46, and comments from parents would be welcomed please emailed deborah.Ellison@kender.lewisham.sch.uk
Thank you to all the parents who are ensuring their children are in school regularly and on time, this will make a big difference to your child’s progress. Please note all gates will be closed at 9.05am, after which children will need to enter via the main reception and will be asked to sign in on the system. A friendly reminder that all attendance is monitored by the Lewisham Local Authority.
We have noticed the increase in numbers of sugary foods included in pack lunches lately, which goes against our healthy eating ethos. Parents, please remember that we have a no chocolate and sweets policy, and the drink should preferably be water. We would also like to ask parents to ensure that water bottles for use throughout the day, only contain water,no juices.
Friends of Kender Annual General Meeting:
Following the meeting last night FoK have agreed to support and fund some of our end of term celebrations that we have planned for the children.
On Monday 14th December, there will be a party/disco for each year group bubble all party food, refreshments and decorations will be paid for out of FoK funds.
Thursday 17th December there will be pantomime for the whole school, again, all funded by Friends of Kender.
We very much thank the team at FoK and know the children will look forward to these events. There will be more information in the weeks to come.
Please accept my apologies for the absence of any member of the Senior Leadership team on Briant Street gate this morning. We do have a clear rota and are trying our best to ensure there is a member of staff on each gate when children arrive and leave school.
Gate duties for next week:
Main entrance: Mr Barr/Ms Luxmoore
Faulkner street; Mr Denys
Briant street: Ms Jeffery/Mr Vinnicombe/Mr Barr
Kender street: Mrs Ellison
Wishing all families a restful weekend. Please be safe!
Mr. Barr Mrs. Ellison

Home Learning update…
Again there are some short videos on the school website. Please take time to view these. The remote learning for next week is now up on the school website. There is new learning for all classes and something for each day next week.
Another great start to the day in Yr1. We have finished English on @Showbie and now the children at school are having a go on the @ReadWPhonics app. A great app for developing phonics skills and knowledge https://t.co/fKPoPuiNib
