It has been a great week in school. It is very different and the children are being so good at following the new rules and new guidance. Everyone is doing their utmost to ensure Kender is open and all classes can be in school everyday. It has been a really good start to the term.
Reception and Year one classes are now back full time and staying for lunch each day; well done to them, they’ve had a long week.
Thanks you to you for doing your bit too!
Thank you for not coming onto school site in the morning and following the one way system at collection times; these are both so important to minimise transition. Thank you also, for putting letters in the mail boxes proved; to remind you there is one in the main playground near the Briant street gate and another on the main gate; both are emptied at the end of each day.
Gate duties for next week:
Main entrance: Mr Barr
Faulkner street; Ms Jeffery and Ms Gilday
Briant street: Mrs Ellison
Kender street: Mr Vinnicombe and Ms Luxmoore
Symptoms and testing:
Should your child have any of the know symptoms of Covid-19 please keep them at home and get them tested. We have a small number of tests and can provide you with one if you are unable to use any of the local centres.
Our nearest centre is on Vanguard street in Deptford.
If you are at all unsure keep your child at home and telephone the school.
Please remember to send your child with a labelled water bottle of their own. These can be left in school all week and they will be allowed or helped to refill them in school
A Friendly reminder to parents when leaving messages on the absence answer phone for your child. Please give their full name, class and the reason why they will be absent. All messages should be left before 9am and parents should contact the school on each day their child is absent, unless it will be a long-term absence, which should be supported by medical evidence.
In line with our safeguarding and attendance policies, home visits will be carried out when children are absent for more than 3 days, without parents contacting the school. Regular attendance is important as the legal requirement is 96% and all attendance is monitored by the local authority.
A big thank you to all the parents for your patience this week with attendance calls and text messages. We are installing a new way of recording messages and have had a few hic cups. Your support has been really appreciated!
Learning Packs and iPads for home learning:
We are making preparations that should any of our year group bubbles need to be sent home we will be able to provide children with the resources they need to learn at home. On Monday there will be a form on the website for parents to read and sign; this form provides information about the terms and conditions for children borrowing school ipads. Please read and digitally sign this form as soon as you can.
We are aiming to have all forms signed by the end of next week.
I’m sure you will understand this is a last retort and we do not want to close any year group bubbles but we do need to be prepared just in case. There will be a text message sent on Monday providing a link to the form. Thank you for your support with this matter.
School meal forms:
Another friendly reminder to parents who have not submitted their meal option form. Please return this by the end of the day, as the deadline was last Friday. Thank you!
It has been brought to my attention that there are some quite alarming stories circulating within the media, which contain quite exaggerated and untrue items of news; all of which only serve to create anxiety.
Please refer to our school website and read the newsletters each week. We aim to give you, or signpost you, to the information you need. If you’re still in doubt just ask one of our members of staff on the gates in the morning or at the end of the school day.
Have a lovely weekend, enjoying the sunny weather if you can.
Headteachers Video for Secondary Transfer We will be making a short video explaining the process of applying for places at Secondary schools. We aim to have this film available by the end of next week. There will be details of how to ask us...

Again there are some short videos on the school website. Please take time to view these. The remote learning for next week is now up on the school website. There is new learning for all classes and something for each day next week.
Yes @RealGeoffBarton@BBCr4today@KenderSchool and other schools have kept their part of the bargain...we're open. To stay open we need access to tests! A lot of them. And then the results. And quickly!!
