We have reached the last week of the school year. Please note school closes on Friday 17th July, at 2.30pm, and re-opens for all children on Thursday 3rd September.
Thank you to all the parents who attended the handover meetings this week. As well as collecting your child’s report, you will have received a letter informing you of your child’s class teacher for next year and all the arrangements for dropping and collecting your child. If you were unable to attend the meetings we will post the report and letters.
All essential information will be on the school website too.
We have one member of staff who is leaving us at the end of this school year. Ms Fox is relocating to live in Liverpool and it will be a bit too far for her to travel each day to Kender!!!! We wish her well and will be saying our goodbyes this Friday. Ms Green is a new teacher to Kender and she will join the staff team teaching in one of our reception classes in September.
Further information about summer learning for the children can be found on the school website. There will be a short film on the website in which each teacher introduces themselves and include a little bit of information about who they are and the things they like. In the video the teachers will talk about something that is special to them to help encourage children to think about their special things over the summer break. You will find this video on the website from Friday.
Also on Friday, our Year Six Leavers video will be on the website. The children have said some lovely things about the school and they clearly enjoyed making their film. We wish them well in their new schools and look forward to hearing all about their successes when they drop in to see us in September.
We have had several meetings this week planning for September. One meeting included a reading list for our staff. If you’d like to see what the adults are reading to help further their knowledge and understaffing around diversity and the Black Lives Matter agenda you may wish to get copies and read for yourselves. Here is the reading list:
The Vanishing Half - Brit Bennett
Why I’m no Longer Talking to White People about Race - Reni Eddo-Lodge
Natives, Race & Class in the Ruins of Empire - Akala
Diversify - June Sarpong
We are trying to work out how we can best support our working parents who require wraparound care before and after school. Although government guidance says that schools are able to provide wraparound care, it also states that the children should be kept in their year group bubbles where possible. We do not have the space or the staffing to run separate groups for each bubble: we only have one room with the right facilities. We are also advised to limit the number of children to bubbles of 15.
We are working on a plan to try and use our outdoor facilities as much as possible to make it easier to keep the children separate but this will take some time to plan thoroughly. I regret therefore that we will be unable to offer wraparound care until at least 14 September 2020. You should also be aware that current guidance states that we will also be able to offer wraparound care only to children who need this from Monday – Friday each week in order for us to ensure that any cross contamination between bubbles is limited as much as possible. We will be working on plans for wraparound care as soon as we return in September
A final message from me this school year. Thank you all for the messages of thanks and praise offered over the course of this year. It has been such and long and unusual year that we have almost forgotten the very successful Ofsted inspection that happened in October. I will be meeting all staff on the last day of term to thank them for their hard work and commitment to improving learning for all children at Kender.
I wish you all an enjoyable and restful break. Keep safe and I look forward to seeing you all in school on September 3rd.
Please find attached the End of term letter for all parents - Please read carefully as this information is important for the children's return in September 2020/21. In addition if you have not signed the Covid-19 homes school agreement please print the attached or come into reception to si...
